| dc.description | On the basis of descriptions from chroniclers and archives, the present article examines the pilgrimages between Chiquinquirá and Tunja during the plagues of 1587 and 1633, a blend of popular piety and faith in the heavenly medicine by both indigenous peoples and Spaniards. It also reviews the iconography of this peculiar type of painting, its relationship with the Friars Preachers (Dominican Order), and the traces it left in the town of Tunja such as the shrine rendering tribute to her. | en_US |
