| dc.description | The article considers the influence of the Council of Trent and Jesuit philosophy on the formulation of the concept of saintliness and its representation in a series of murals of Quito’s Carmelo de San José, inspired by a series of prints from Flanders. It also examines the iconological type, to ascertain the underlying reasons for building these sanctuaries and how their iconographic messages, subscribing to an ideology arising from the Counter-Reformation, exerted an impact on events occurring in the Audiencia de Quito in the eighteenth century. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | El artículo considera la influencia del Concilio de Trento y la filosofía jesuítica en la formulación del concepto de santidad y su representación en un grupo de murales del Carmelo quiteño de San José, inspirados en un conjunto de estampas originarias de Flandes. Además, se hace un análisis de tipo iconológico, para determinar el por qué de la ejecución de estos temples y de qué manera sus mensajes iconográficos, adheridos a un corpus ideológico producto de la Contrarreforma, incidieron en sucesos ocurridos en la Audiencia de Quito durante el siglo XVIII. | es_ES |
