| dc.description | The article evaluates how Ecuadorian historiography has studied literate women’s access to vote in Ecuador, as approved by the Constituent Assembly of 1928-1929. It offers a critical review of the studies on the subject and a new reading of the reasons why the right to vote was granted to literate Ecuadorian women, who were the first to vote in Latin America. To this end, it studies the political context marked by a cultural war between the Church and the State, which had women’s participation in the public sphere as one of its main components. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | El artículo evalúa la forma en que la historiografía ecuatoriana ha estudiado el acceso al voto de las mujeres alfabetizadas en el Ecuador, aprobado por la Asamblea Constituyente de 1928-1929. Ofrece una revisión crítica de los estudios sobre el tema y una nueva lectura sobre las razones por las que se otorgó el derecho al voto a las ecuatorianas alfabetizadas, quienes fueron las primeras en sufragar en América Latina.
