Alegoría e historia en La hoguera bárbara (Del Historiador y el Ensayista)

Abstract

El autor estudia La hoguera bárbara como texto inscrito en una doble tradición de la literatura latinoamericana, vigente hasta los años 60: reconstruye la vida de un caudillo, aspirando a refundar el sentido de lo nacional, y, por otro lado, problematiza los límites entre historia y literatura, en tanto el texto es alegoría de lo nacional y narrativa biográfica. La hoguera bárbara plantea una visión histórica en la que el héroe ocupa el lugar central, tiene un claro carácter nacionalista, lo que permite comprender la recuperación de este personaje histórico después del conflicto con el Perú de 1941. Más allá de su valor literario, el autor propone que La hoguera bárbara sea leída como un texto histórico.

The author studies La hoguera bárbara as a book written in a double tradition of Latin American Literature, going on since the 1960's: it reconstructs the life of a caudillo (warlord), who aspires to re-found a sense of 'national' and on the other hand, it is made problematic by the limits between history and literature, in that the text is an allegory of national and biographical fiction. La hoguera bárbara pro poses a historical vision that makes the hero the central figure, it is of a distinct nationalistic character which allows understanding of the recuperation of this historical personage after the conflict with Perú in 1941. Beyond its literary value, the author proposes that La hoguera bárbara be read as a historical text.
